There he goes again. Michael Moore earlier this year released Sicko, a new “documentary” movie about American health care. I put the word in quotation marks because documentary films usually present facts.
But for
Yet
The story in Sicko revolves around a pre-set narrative. What ails American health care, according to
For example, the Canadian courts recently ruled in favor of patient George Zeliotis, who lived in pain for a year while waiting for a hip operation under
In
Socialized health systems are chronically plagued by rationing, shortages, labor strikes and disputes over doctors’ pay. The poor quality of socialized medicine helps explain why so many foreigners travel to the
The most disturbing part of the film is
Another problem with government-run health care is it would scare investment away from medical research. If you had $1 million and could invest it in any industry you wanted, would you choose one where all the important business decisions are made by government officials?
The solution is not, as
Markets are not about profits, they are about information. Markets connect suppliers with customers by using price mechanisms. Price signals tell suppliers what consumers want, and tell consumers the value of what they are receiving. Profits are the result of correctly understood price signals. If a supplier understands what people value and provides it, he will make money. If not, he will go broke. The key is to use prices and profits as guides to think sympathetically about others and meet their needs.
In 2003, President George Bush took a major step toward free-market health care by signing legislation creating individual Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). Tax-free HSAs, along with low-cost catastrophic insurance, allow Americans to own their health benefits, build savings from year to year and, at retirement, use the money to buy supplemental Medicare coverage or long-term care insurance.
Today some eight million Americans are covered by HSAs. These affordable accounts are not just for the healthy and wealthy. About half of people covered by HSAs are over 40, and 27% of new enrollees previously had no coverage.
Yes, as hard as it may be for
HSA holders are people who are in charge of their own health care. They do not need approval from insurance executives, state bureaucrats, or Michael Moore, to make their own decisions about health care.
The irony is that just as Americans are making progress with health care reforms that work – based on competitive markets and consumer choice – Michael Moore wants to take us in exactly the opposite direction.
There is one thing we can be sure of, however. If we do someday adopt socialized medicine, you will not find
So before we adopt socialized medicine, we should try this experiment first. The federal government would guarantee equal access to movies for all Americans by creating a U.S. Department of Entertainment Services. This agency would to tell movie makers like Moore what films to make, when and where they can be shown, what the ticket price is, and what profit, if any, is allowed.
After he has lived under government control of his industry for a few years, then we will ask

Come now! Ask a senior citizen of the high cost of meds. They go to Canada and Mexico to get the same drugs. Talk about young families without health care. Talk about the torts against doctors, and see Attorney General Rob McKenna stopping cases of families who lost children due to wrongful deaths by doctors. McKenna is with the insurance companies, the doctors, Washington Counties, and of course the Medical Association who does not what tort cases against their doctors. What does this say about our health care? Who really is the Sicko? Moore has real people not actors in his films, and they are accurate. Back to McKenna --- his goals are to helping children and seniors, yet pushes agains wrongful death cases, allowin DSHS and his State departments STOP all the cases because of DSHS mismanagements. He is taking a double-take...and obviously he does not care about adult children, and signed his support to put them in the ground and let the doctors and DSHS go free. He is against Washington families, and good health care...because DSHS is getting law suit after law suit, and Washington State had to stop it.
Our medical health care is under crisis.....it is sicko, as is our elected officials who support big business, but not the people who put them in office.
Washington State wants to create a U.S. Department of Entertainment Services? And they put down the Democrats for wanting health care? Look at Bush and his invasion of Iraq on weapons that were not there. Look at his invasion of BLM lands. Look at his promise to stop gas gougging at the pumps -- and he does not do a think. Look at the Bush's slow action to the hurricane in the Gulf states. Look at him going after the oil reserves in our fragile national oil reserves and parks. Look at him trying to privatize national parks. Look at him allowing his oil buddies to get into utah frazile red lands to get oil. It is all big money and supporting big business. Look at Bush outsourcing jobs for 3 year of his adminstration unemloyment was at its highest. As he stops union and Amerian work shipping jobs overseas, as Japan brings the business over here--and they are outdoing FORD. Everything is now made in China or a 3rd world country...and America is loosing its workforce, as Bushites send our resources and jobs overseas. VP Chaney was with Hillburtron, as they WIN all the contracts in Iraq. Bushite's dad failed in getting us into the War, so his sone came in and invaded Iraw as mentioned. Now Chaney's company is making billions, as our soldiers are coming home in body bags. Civil unrest is higher in Iraq and the middle east, as more Muslims hate the USA. Who are you folks fooling? Look at our ecomony now...look at the money the oil companies make, as the stock market falls, home sales drops, sales in stores drop. The Republican part needs some major changes. I switched parties because of Bush. American people wanted out of the War, and if the Demos do not do as they promised...they neither will make office. And Gore won the elections, but Bushe's brother put in the electorial vote...and not the popular vote where Gore won. This country has gone sour. It is our government supporting big business, and it is taking us down fast. NO, I will not vote Republican again. You guys lost me as a voter...which I voted for your party for years.
How much would you pay for just one more day of life, when you know you will die tomorrow? How much would you pay for a mediciation that will stop your childs pain, if they had fallen from a tree and broke all their bones? The United States of America, yes unlike any country in the world has placed a price tag of the quality of life of you, your children and all americans. If we can stand to be the greatest country in the world, let us implement a socliaized medicine policy that will be the best in the world. Let us take back our country from greed and coruption that has crippled the morals and meaning of life for our fellow Americans.
